As an instructor, I enjoy introducing my students to the sociological imagination and helping them develop toolkits to critically examine the world around them. I am particularly interested in building better classroom discussions in order to cultivate a more productive, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment. My courses are designed to promote student ownership over inquiry and research in order to facilitate deep learning and intrinsic motivation. I have also designed a teaching website to create an engaging and interactive learning experience for my students. The following pages showcase my teaching philosophy and experience. Also included are examples of my efforts in developing three core teaching competencies: course design and planning, assessing student learning, and teaching effectively. Finally, I have highlighted some of my favorite teaching resources for both course design and instructional techniques. In a separate section of my portfolio on professional development, I outline various teaching-related coursework, workshops, and trainings that I have completed.
